June is Pride month, and to help celebrate we’re dedicating our Lawyers Give Back donation to The Trevor Project, which provides 24/7 crisis support services to LGBTQ+ youth.

We had heard about The Trevor Project and knew of its mission to end suicide among LGBTQ+ youth, but we were unaware of its origin story. The organization dates back to 1998, and was founded by the creators of the Oscar-winning short film Trevor, about a gay teen who was rejected by his friends and subsequently attempted suicide.

In advance of its television premiere, the filmmakers wanted to provide a support line to viewers who might be facing similar circumstances. They couldn’t find one—so they created it. Originally called the Trevor Lifeline, this nonprofit has been connecting in-crisis LGBTQ+ youth with caring adults for the past 25 years and has added many other services to its mission, including research, education and advocacy.

Despite the strides that have been made, it’s hard to believe that in 2023 the work of organizations like The Trevor Project is as urgent as ever. Thank goodness for nonprofits like this one. Learn more at thetrevorproject.org.
