Lawyers Give Back: Nashville Food Project tackles food waste, hunger and more

By Exo Legal,

Nashville may be booming, but in our It City one in eight people still lacks access to enough food to sustain a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, more than 40% of all food in our city goes to waste. The Nashville Food Project, this month’s recipient of our Lawyers Give Back billable hour donation, is trying to improve these statistics by collecting food that otherwise would have been wasted and transforming them into nutritious meals ready for distribution. In 2023, the Nashville Food Project prepared and shared more than 325,000 meals (with the help of 700 volunteers) with 53 partner organizations across 67 sites all across the city.

Since its founding in 2011, the nonprofit has grown (no pun intended) to also include community gardens and a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program, which matches the harvests of some of Nashville’s immigrant and refugee farmers with customers hungry for fresh produce. These farmers specialize in fruits and vegetables that grow easily in Nashville, as well as foods that are typically grown in their homelands.

For more than two years, Exo Legal’s Lawyers Give Back Campaign has donated at least one hour of work to a charity helping people in our community or in our world. We are proud to support the good work of the Nashville Food Project with this month’s donation.
